Removing Snow From Your Roof

The first snow fall of the season is here. Even though you are inside of your nice and cozy home, you can’t help but to wonder how much snow is actually going to come down. Before you start planning out your next vacation in your head, take a few moments of your time to clean the snow off your roof.

Wet snow is very heavy and can pose some challenges to any roof. If your roof is in dire need of repairs, leaving snow on it could create unnecessary stress and cause further damage. Removing snow from your roof can be very dangerous if you’re not careful. If you’re not ready to hire the professionals, here are some Tennessee roof snow removal tips you can use.
  • You should only attempt DIY roof snow removal if your home is one story high or less.  Anything taller should be handled by the professionals.

  • Use a long handled roof snow rake. Many home improvement stores carry many affordable kinds of snow rakes. Do your research and try to choose one that has a telescopic handle and built-in rollers.

  • Be careful where you pull the snow down to. If you’re not careful, you could end up with a face and head full of cold, wet snow, facilitating the need for you to run back indoors.

  • You don’t have to remove every inch of snow.

  •  You just want to remove enough to lighten some of the heavy load your roof has to endure.

  • If you find the task challenging consider hiring a professional snow removal service for your roof.
  • Have your roof inspected once it snow free. You need to make sure it’s in good condition so it can withstand the cold and snowy weather.
